Marostica, the cherries’ heaven

Unforgettable ItalyWant to know what heaven is like in spring? Come to Marostica and you will arrive in time to see the cherry trees in blossom. In this period of the year, a white cloud of flowers covers the hills, but at about a month they will change the pure white to the red passion of the juicy and tempting little fruits. But, calm down, to yield to them is not a sin. Here, they usually say that eating the first cherry of the season entitles you to make three wishes, so take your time and do your best!. However, this only applies for the first one, since we all know that a “cherry leads to another”, and everything will culminate in the Cherry Festival, which will be held on the 31st May. Surely we will be there! The exponent of the English literature, Oscar Wilde once said: “I can resist everything except temptations”. Continue reading

Unforgettable Italy

italivroTorreglia is a part of this book called Italy, and Valentino and Elvira are among the many authors who wrote its history. By keeping the memories alive, we reclaim our past. This is a report of farewell and encounters; a short paragraph in Torreglia’s history, written by those who left, and unknown to the ones who today build the Torreglia of the future. I feel myself fortunate for having the opportunity of remembering Valentino and Elvira, bringing back a forgotten history and finding my roots at the Colli Euganei’s feet.   Continue reading

Torreglia in Winter

Unforgettable Italy

torreglia-in-winterwinterAhhh… Torreglia’s white winter! The landscape changes again with the intense cold. Winter is the season of the incomparable hot chocolate and cappuccino, and for those, like me, to whom the cold always seems to be colder than what the thermometer shows, it’s not bad… it is only the time to heat up with vin brulè (hot beverage made with red wine, fruit and cinnamon), a good liquor of those stored before or a good Italian wine. It’s impossible to live in Italy without wine.  Continue reading

Torreglia in Autumn

Unforgettable Italy

torreglia-in-autumnautumnThe colors and tastes of autumn (yeah, the tastes) are unforgettable. The trees, slowly, renew their colors and the nature changes the hills’ scenario. It`s already time to paint the Colli [hills] with colors which goes from yellow to brown passing through the shades of orange and red. A fascinating show! But, Torreglia in autumn is also the taste of grapes, pomegranates and berries gathered along the streets and trails. In addition, the dropping temperature makes autumn a great season to get to know Torreglia’s restaurants… and there are many! Continue reading

Unforgettable Italy

torreglia-in-summersummerSummer is a fortunate season because it takes advantage of the spring flowers and adds them to its luxurious green. The temperature goes up and it’s mandatory, after each visit, a stop for drinking a spritz. My favorite place for a drink in Torreglia in summer (and it was there that I met Romeo for the first time) is the outside area of Alla Torre Hotel, a small castle built in the Liberty style (Italian name for Art Nouveau) of the late nineteenth century. Italy is an open Storybook. Each line is a path to be discovered; each full stop is a place to be known, not mentioning the comas, the exclamation marks and… well, even question marks, but nothing that cannot be improved. Continue reading
